Orlando Puppet Workshops

Come celebrate the Orlando Repertory Theatre's new show Sideways Stories from Wayside School with a puppet workshop and show that you get to star in. John Kennedy, the North Light Books author of Puppet Mania!, is sharing a sneak peak at his new puppet making book Puppet Planet by welcoming you to an exclusive puppet workshop and clinic where the end result is putting you on stage to perform your new puppet creation. For 4 Saturdays starting March 18th at 12:00pm, John will be leading his workshops that are appropiate for children of any age, even big kids are welcome. It's a 1 hour workshop and a 20 minute show in the lobby of the ORT that introduces the featured performance. Everything is included in the $10.00 workshop fee and you get to keep the puppet you make. Here are the dates and projects:

Spoon Balloon Frog Spoon Balloon Frog - This is a cool rod puppet made from an ordinary cooking ladle. The twist is the frog can croak by means of a hidden balloon. Participants will try their hand at painting color and texture on to the frog. The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, March 18th from 12:00pm - 1:00pm with a 1:30pm show. There is a $10.00 fee. Foaman Workshop Foaman Workshop - With an emphasis on carving foam rubber with scissors, this project produces a fun mouth puppet that is easy to perform. It is a more challenging project so if younger puppeteers attend they may require adult assistance. The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, March 25th from 12:00pm - 1:00pm with a 1:30pm show. Sweatshirt Sheep Sweatshirt Sheep - A flexible hand puppet and a cute pal discribes this sheep which is made from an average sweatshirt sleeve. The majority of the workshop is comprised of choosing puppet parts so this is a good class for little ones. The sweatshirts will be provided. Parade Alien Parade Alien - He may look big but he comes in peace. He is a large rod puppet that can be performed with the puppeteers in full view. Generally operated above your head, this project focuses on painting and gluing puppet parts to a premade structure. Sideways Stories from Wayside School ALSO - Dont miss the opening night of Sideways Stories from Wayside School when the Central Florida Puppetry Guild will be performing their creations from Puppet Planet in a special presentation hosted by John and Professor Foaman at 6:30pm in the lobby of the ORT just before the curtain opens at 7:00pm.
